My Guitar Notes

Vox Phantom

The Vox Phantom is an electric guitar introduced by the British company Vox in the early 1960s. Its body has a distinctive teardrop outline with a rounded lower section and a small headstock, and it was offered with a set of single-coil or, later, other pickups, a vibrato bridge on some versions and an unusual control layout including onboard effects on certain models. Its striking shape made it a symbol of the British beat boom, and it appears in the hands of several bands of that period, though the sound and construction were not always equal to the appearance.
