Yamaha CP-70

The Yamaha CP-70 is an electric grand piano introduced in the middle of the 1970s. Rather than generating its sound electronically, it strikes a real set of strings with a conventional piano action and picks up the vibration with piezo transducers, so that it can be amplified but still behaves like an acoustic instrument, and the case can be split in two for transport. It was used widely on stages and in studios in the late 1970s and 1980s, where a piano was needed at a volume that a grand could not safely reach, and its sound is closely identified with the records of that period.
