Yamaha QX series
The Yamaha QX series is a family of hardware sequencers the company produced in the 1980s. The instruments record musical parts as digital data rather than audio, storing the notes, timings and controller movements played on a keyboard or entered step by step, and playing them back to tone generators over MIDI, with editing facilities that allow individual events to be changed on a display. Sequencers of this kind were the centre of a small studio in the period before computer software took over the same work, and the QX models were used for both composing and live performance.
