Yamaha SY series
The Yamaha SY series is a family of digital synthesizers the company produced from the end of the 1980s. The instruments generate their sounds by frequency modulation and related methods, which build tones from simple waveforms combined to create complex harmonics, and they offer extensive programming, multitimbral operation so that several parts can sound at once, effects and, on the larger models, the ability to add sampled sounds to the synthesised ones. They were used in the popular and electronic music of the period and represent the company's most advanced work of that kind.
