Boss CS-1
The Boss CS-1 Compression Sustainer was the first compressor in Boss's compact pedal range, released at the end of the 1970s. It combined a compression control, which sets how hard the signal is squeezed, with a sustain control that holds notes at a steady level, letting chords and single lines ring on longer than they otherwise would. Compressors of this kind even out picking dynamics, which makes them useful before an overdrive or for country and funk playing. The CS-1 was replaced in the early 1980s by the CS-2, and the CS-3 has carried the name since the mid 1980s.
