Boss HM-2

The Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal is a compact distortion pedal from the early 1980s whose characteristic sound became a defining element of Swedish death metal. Its four controls, Level, Distortion, and a pair of colour controls, the low and high equalisation set fully up, produce a dense, buzzing wall of distortion with a scooped and yet aggressively bright character. Studios in Stockholm used the pedal into already driven amplifiers, and that combination shaped a whole genre. Discontinued for years, it was later reissued, and it remains a cult favourite among metal players.
