Boss OD-1

The Boss OD-1 Over Drive is the first overdrive pedal in the compact Boss range, launched at the end of the 1970s. Its circuit used an operational amplifier with asymmetric clipping, a design that many players credit with inventing the pedal overdrive, and it had only Level, Overdrive and Tone controls. The sound is a mild, natural grind that pushes a valve amplifier into break-up rather than delivering distortion on its own, which suits blues and classic rock. Early units, particularly the first production run, are sought after by collectors.
