Boss PS-5

The Boss PS-5 Super Shifter is a compact digital pitch shifter from the 2000s that covers shifting, harmonising and whammy-style bends. A mode dial selects settings such as smooth or fast pitch shift, a two-note harmonist in a chosen key, detune for thickening a sound, and an expression-pedal controlled pitch bend that imitates a dive bomb. Because it is digital it tracks single notes and simple intervals accurately enough for live use, and players use it for drop tunings, octave lines and the kind of extreme pitch effects that were once the preserve of rack units.
