Boss SD-1

The Boss SD-1 Super OverDrive is one of the best-selling overdrive pedals ever produced and has been in the Boss catalogue since the early 1980s. Its circuit is built around an operational amplifier with asymmetric clipping, the arrangement used in the original OD-1, and three controls set the output level, the amount of drive and the tone. The asymmetric clipping gives it a warm, slightly compressed grind with a hint of midrange push that works well pushing a valve amplifier, which is why it became the standard cheap overdrive of the last four decades.
