Fender Mustang Bass
The Fender Mustang Bass is a short-scale electric bass introduced in the mid 1960s and built on the compact offset body of the Mustang guitar. With a scale of about thirty inches and a single split-coil or single-coil pickup depending on the version, it produces a rounded, somewhat softer bass sound than a full-scale instrument, and its short neck makes wide stretches easier for players with smaller hands. It has been used on many well known recordings, particularly in the 1960s and 1970s, and Fender has kept the model in production in various forms, including a later reissue and the addition of other pickup arrangements.
