My Guitar Notes

Fender Mustang

The Fender Mustang is a solid-body electric guitar introduced in 1964 as a student instrument. It has a compact offset body, a short scale length, two pickups with separate switching and Fender's Dynamic Vibrato unit, whose design gives a shallower, more controlled movement than the Stratocaster tremolo, along with a simple control set. It sold steadily in its own period and was taken up later by alternative and indie rock players who valued its small body, short scale and slightly wiry tone, and Fender has reissued it repeatedly.
