Fender White Steel
The Fender White Steel is a steel guitar from Fender's line of instruments built for the Hawaiian and country styles in which the guitar is laid flat and played with a steel bar. Fender produced non-pedal steel guitars from the 1940s, in single and multiple neck forms and in a variety of finishes, and instruments were often named after their appearance, so a white-finished steel of this kind appears in the catalogue under that descriptive title. Steel guitars of this sort were central to country and western swing bands, and Fender's examples are collected for their place in that tradition.
