My Guitar Notes

Gibson Chet Atkins SST

The Gibson Chet Atkins SST is a steel-string acoustic-electric guitar designed with the American guitarist Chet Atkins. It is a solid-body instrument rather than a true acoustic guitar, built with a chambered or solid construction and an under-saddle pickup system, which allows high volume on stage without the feedback that afflicts a conventional acoustic. It plays with the feel of an electric instrument, with a slim neck and light action, and it was made in six-string and twelve-string versions. It is used by performers who need an acoustic-sounding tone at stage volumes.
