My Guitar Notes

Gibson Dove

The Gibson Dove is a square-shouldered flat-top acoustic guitar introduced in the early 1960s. It has a maple back and sides with a spruce top, which gives a bright and distinctly different voice from the rosewood instruments in the range, and it is elaborately decorated with a large pickguard carrying a dove design, bound body and neck and a distinctive bridge. It was positioned near the top of Gibson's acoustic range and is associated with several well known players, and it has been reissued in later decades as one of the company's prestige flat-tops.
