Gibson Explorer
The Gibson Explorer is a solid-body electric guitar introduced in 1958 as part of the company's modernistic group, alongside the Flying V and the Moderne. Its body is a sharply angular slab with a long, offset lower horn and a distinctive cutaway, and the early examples were built in korina with two humbucking pickups, while the design was revived in the 1970s in mahogany with the pickups and hardware of that era. It sold poorly in its first form and the originals are rare, but the shape became a standard in hard rock and metal, and it has been reissued repeatedly.
