Gibson Flying V

The Gibson Flying V is a solid-body electric guitar introduced in 1958 as part of the company's modernistic group. It has a sharply pointed body with two long wings and a deep V-shaped cutaway, a set neck and two humbucking pickups, and the first examples were built in korina. The design was too unconventional for the market of the time and was withdrawn after a short production run, making the originals rare, but it was revived in the late 1960s and became firmly established in hard rock and metal, where its dramatic shape and upper-fret access made it a favourite.
