My Guitar Notes

Gibson L Series

The Gibson L Series is the family of acoustic guitars Gibson has produced since the early twentieth century, originally with bodies measuring about fourteen inches across. The line includes small-bodied instruments such as the L-1 and L-00, used by blues and folk players for their compact size and punchy, midrange-heavy tone, and the carved-top archtop guitars such as the L-4, L-5 and L-7, which became the standard jazz instruments of their era. The series as a whole traces the development of Gibson's acoustic building from the early flat-tops to the electric archtops.
