Gibson Les Paul
The Gibson Les Paul is the solid-body electric guitar designed with the guitarist Les Paul and introduced in 1952. It has a single-cutaway body of mahogany with a carved maple cap on most versions, a set neck, two pickups with separate volume and tone controls and, from the later 1950s, a Tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece. Its combination of thick sustain, warm midrange and substantial weight made it the counterpart to the Fender designs in the development of the electric guitar, and it is one of the most widely used and most imitated instruments ever built.
