My Guitar Notes

Gibson SG Standard

The Gibson SG Standard is the main version of the symmetrical, thin-bodied double-cutaway guitar Gibson introduced at the beginning of the 1960s. It has an all-mahogany body with twin sharply cut horns, a set neck that joins the body high up for good access to the upper frets, two humbucking pickups with separate volume and tone controls and a Tune-o-matic bridge with a stop tailpiece or vibrato. Its light weight, fast neck and strong midrange made it a standard instrument in rock, and it has been in production in various forms since it was introduced.
