My Guitar Notes

Gibson Thunderbird

The Gibson Thunderbird is an electric bass introduced in the early 1960s, designed in the same modernistic manner as the Firebird guitar. It has a long, offset reverse body with two pointed horns, a neck-through construction in which the neck and body centre are a single piece, and two humbucking pickups with separate volume and tone controls, giving a deep, resonant and very distinctive voice with strong sustain. It is a large and relatively heavy instrument, and it has been used widely in rock, with several versions and reissues produced over the decades.
