Roland MC-4 Microcomposer
The Roland MC-4 MicroComposer is a digital sequencer from the beginning of the 1980s, one of the company's early microprocessor-based devices for controlling synthesizers. It holds a large number of notes and lets the player enter and edit them by number, and it sends its instructions as analogue control voltages and gate signals to the instruments it drives, since MIDI did not yet exist. It was a considerable advance on the step sequencers of the period, and the microcomposer name was also used on the company's software in later years.
