My Guitar Notes

Roland MC-8 Microcomposer

The Roland MC-8 MicroComposer is a digital sequencer introduced in the middle of the 1970s and one of the first microprocessor-controlled music devices. It stores notes entered from a keyboard or by number and plays them back by sending control voltages and gate signals to analogue synthesizers, and its method of composing in numbers rather than by playing allowed precise and complex parts that a performer could not have played by hand. It was expensive and used mainly by professional studios and composers, and it stands at the beginning of the development of the digital sequencer.
