Roland MT-32

The Roland MT-32 is a sound module introduced in the middle of the 1980s, and one of the most widely used instruments in the computer music of the following decade. It generates its sounds from a combination of sampled attack transients and synthesised sustained tones, an approach the company called LA synthesis, and it became a standard tone source for computer game soundtracks and for early desktop music software, since it could play many parts at once over MIDI. Its particular voice is fondly remembered by players of the games and programs that used it, and later versions added further sound sets.
