Why it matters
Most ukuleles at this price are acoustic only, and the UEW5 is one of the better-known exceptions, treating the instrument as an amplified stage tool. It sits in the middle of Ibanez's ukulele line, above the plain acoustic models. With the electronics built in, it competes directly with acoustic ukuleles carrying aftermarket pickups.
Note
Electric-acoustic concert with a cutaway and onboard preamp — the model that treats the ukulele as a stage instrument.
