The standard tablature editor for guitarists, sold as a one-time $69.95 licence.
Watch
GuitarBasement goes through the features added in version 8, and Guitar Pro's own channel shows the Metallica solo transcription in use.
Why it matters
Audio track import with score synchronisation is the feature that matters most for learning: load a recording and the tab follows it. GP files are the format other players and tab sites already use, and the mobile apps open the same files, so one purchase covers desktop and phone. Upgrades from earlier versions cost $34.95 rather than the full price.
Note
Guitar Pro remains the default tablature editor for guitarists, sold as a $69.95 perpetual licence with upgrades at $34.95. The current 8.1.x branch keeps shipping maintenance updates (8.1.51, October 2025) and the company showed a new Guitar Pro mobile app prototype at NAMM 2025.
