Regal resonators are the budget-side answer to the Dobro, built in the United States from the pre-war years onward.
Watch
Why it matters
Regal was one of several American makers that produced resonator guitars for players who could not stretch to a Dobro, and the badge has been reused on imported instruments since. There is no current list price for the vintage originals, because value depends on cone type, body material and how much of the instrument is still original. Collectors generally pay more for early single-cone examples than for later instruments carrying the same name.
Note
The budget Dobro rival.
Specifications
- Scale length: unknown
- Neck shape: big V
Before you buy
- no list price applies — value tracks condition and originality
- cones and cover plates are the parts most often replaced
- any vintage resonator needs checking for neck angle and cone damage
