The KA-15S is a satin-finished laminate mahogany soprano ukulele at an entry price, and it is the instrument most shops hand to a first-time buyer.

Why it matters
The KA-15S is the reference point for inexpensive sopranos: consistent enough for teachers and shops to recommend without inspecting each one, and cheap enough to be an impulse buy. Kala also sells a spruce-top variant and a bundled version under the same family name, so the model name covers a few options. Because so many are sold, used examples are everywhere and hold very little value.
Note
The default first ukulele in most shops: mahogany laminate soprano, low price, consistent enough to recommend blind.
