dynamic mic

Shure SM57

The dynamic mic that became the default choice for close-miking guitar cabs, in production since 1965.

Why it matters

The SM57 has been in the Shure catalogue since 1965 and is the mic most closely tied to close-miked guitar amps. That is why it is the default recommendation when someone asks what to put in front of a cab.

Note

THE amp mic; every guitar tone ever recorded started here, probably.
