Why it matters
The Riviera is a 1960s Epiphone design that returned to the catalogue, and it is the semi-hollow in the range that differs most from the ES-335 template. Mini-humbuckers and the long Frequensator tailpiece give it a brighter, more articulate character than a full-size humbucking 335. At $699 it sits between the entry-level semi-hollows and the top of Epiphone's range.
Note
335-style with mini-humbuckers and Frequensator-style tailpiece.
Specifications
- Scale length: 628.6 mm (24.75 in)
- Neck shape: Rounded C
Before you buy
- Semi-hollow bodies feed back sooner than solid ones at stage volume
- Mini-humbuckers do not sound like full-size humbuckers, so try both before deciding
- The Frequensator tailpiece takes a little patience at restringing time
