Why it matters

Sterling exists to offer Music Man designs at import prices, and the artist collection applies that approach to the company's most prominent players. The Richardson models keep the signature details, including a contoured lower horn for upper-fret access and push-push switching for a volume boost and coil tap, which is a lot of control for the money. Six and seven-string versions are both offered, with the seven sitting slightly higher.

Specifications

  • Scale length: 647.7 mm (25.5 in)
  • Neck shape: unknown

Before you buy

  • The six and seven-string versions are different instruments rather than trims of one
  • Push-push switching takes some adjustment in live use
  • Figured tops vary between individual guitars, so ask for photographs of the actual instrument
