Why it matters
G&L was Leo Fender's final company, and the L-2000 is the bass the brand is known for, with a switching system that produces a far wider spread of sounds than the two-pickup layout suggests. It is sold in an American-made line and a lower-priced Tribute version, which is where most buyers enter the range. The JB applies the same thinking to the narrower-necked style.
Note
Leo's bass masterworks — the L-2000 is a thunderbolt.
Specifications
- Scale length: 863.6 mm (34 in)
- Neck shape: Medium C
Before you buy
- The switching takes time to learn, and it is easy to leave it in the wrong position
- Tribute and American-made versions look similar but differ in parts and price
- Prices are not published on G&L's own site, so dealer listings are the practical reference
