Why it matters
The D-40 and D-55 are Guild's American-built, spruce-topped dreadnoughts, separated mainly by the back and side wood. Musician's Friend lists the D-40 Traditional at $2,899.99, and Sweetwater lists the D-55 at $4,199.99. Guild dreadnoughts have a thicker midrange than a Martin or Gibson of the same shape, which is the reason players seek them out.
Note
Mahogany and rosewood Guild dreads with a distinct midrange voice.
