Why it matters
The SR shape is sold at almost every price point in Ibanez's bass catalogue, which is why it appears in so many working bands. Its defining trait is a thin neck that makes five-string playing less of a compromise than it is on traditional designs. Because the range is so wide, the useful first step is fixing a budget and a pickup configuration before comparing models.
Note
Slim 5-string-friendly bass platform; the modern bass workhorse.

Before you buy
- The same body shape is sold with very different electronics, so read the model code carefully
- Five and six-string versions have wider necks, which is worth testing in person
- Prices vary widely across the range, so comparisons only make sense within one tier
