Martin's three-piece-back dreadnought, a long-running alternative to the D-28.

Why it matters
The D-35 was introduced in the mid-1960s as a variation on the D-28, with a three-piece rosewood back and lighter top bracing. That combination gives it the strong low end and the slightly more open top end that distinguish it from its plainer relative. It has stayed in the Standard Series ever since and remains a common choice for singer-songwriters.
Note
Three-piece back, 1-style bracing; known for strong lows.
Specifications
- Scale length: 645 mm (25.4 in)
- Neck shape: Golden Era (GE) Modified Low Oval
Before you buy
- Dreadnoughts are large, and this is not a small guitar to hold
- The three-piece back is a visual signature rather than a fixed recipe for tone
- Standard Series prices have risen steadily, so used examples are worth comparing
