Why it matters
Martin keeps both the D-28 and the HD-28 in the Standard Series, and the scalloped bracing of the HD-28 gives it more bass and a looser response than the straighter-braced version. It is the guitar many players mean when they talk about a rosewood Martin dreadnought. Recent years have added variants, including a Super HD-28 with a larger body.
Note
D-28 with herringbone trim and scalloped bracing.
Specifications
- Scale length: 645 mm (25.4 in)
- Neck shape: Golden Era (GE) Modified Low Oval
Before you buy
- A rosewood dreadnought is large and loud, so play it seated and standing
- Scalloped bracing makes the bass looser than on a D-28
- Solid woods need stable humidity
