The SC-13E is Martin's modern acoustic-electric rethink, built around an offset S-shaped body and a deep cutaway for players who want electric-style access to the upper frets.

Why it matters
Martin designed the SC platform around a specific complaint: acoustic guitars are hard to play high up the neck. The asymmetric body and the neck joint put the upper frets within reach, and the shape has since spread across several SC models at different prices. The original SC-13E has been retired by Martin and replaced by the SC-13E Modern, which is the version currently sold.
Note
Radical S-shaped cutaway with side sound port; Martin's modern-era rethink.
Specifications
- Scale length: 645 mm (25.4 in)
- Neck shape: Low Profile Velocity
Before you buy
- The SC-13E name covers both a retired model and its successor, so check which a listing means
- The offset body is a deliberate departure and does not suit every playing position
- Electronics vary between SC tiers, so confirm which system is fitted
